Aerospace and Aeronautics

Nearly 5,000 companies operate in the aerospace sector in France.

The sector employs over 250,000 people (around 7% of French industry) and generates over €100 billion in turnover.

Food industry

The agri-food sector includes different types of companies: agri-food industries, agricultural cooperatives, crop protection companies, etc.

Both upstream in terms of agriculture and downstream in terms of agri-food companies, the agri-food industry faces a number of challenges. The industry is one of the most innovative in France.

Public works and construction

The construction sector alone accounts for 43% of France’s energy consumption. It is also responsible for 23% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Joining the global drive to reduce its carbon footprint and consume less energy, France has set itself ambitious targets for 2030.

Energy, Chemistry, Environment

To reduce CO2 emissions, decarbonise, improve the energy efficiency of industrial processes, find new sources and reserves of energy and design new molecules, companies are facing a number of technological challenges and are investing €5 billion a year in R&D.

Materials

As a major supplier of basic resources and technological solutions, the materials industry is a strategic sector for the development of all branches of industry. From metallurgy, chemicals and plastics to composites, minerals and paper, the sector covers a wide range of fields. With 20,000 researchers, the sector represents an annual investment of around 7 billion euros in France.

Information technology

In France, more than a quarter of R&D active enterprises have committed ICT R&D expenditure, amounting to EUR 8 billion (or 23% of domestic R&D expenditure).

Health and Cosmetics

France is home to a number of world leaders in this strategic sector, which is a major driver of the economy.

Pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, laboratories, medical devices and cosmetics are all represented in the sector.

Public sector
